STANDING ORDER NO.3/1983(Preventive)
SUB: Procedure relating to deposit of seizing/confiscated antiquities
In order to streamline the procedure relating to deposit of seized/confiscated antiquities the following instructions are issued: -
1). Seized antiquities shall remain with the Customs Department pending legal formalities and will be handled/stored in the Customs Warehouses according to the techniques and procedure meant for safe custody which will be supplies by the Director Archaeology. As soon as the' antiquities are seized the Incharge Warehouse will contact Archaeology department to collector from then the relevant procedure applicable in preserving particular antique.
2). Confiscated antiquities shall be handed over by Incharge State Warehouses to the Archaeology Department without payment of any price. It will, however, be made plain that this is being transferred only for custody, preservation and protection and not for consumption or disposal.
3). The Archaeology Department on receipt of the confiscated antiquities shall complete proper documentation relating to taking over of these goods prescribed and Customs department shall be provided with proper certificate alongwith copies of the relevant documents/registers of the department of Archaeology.
4). In case the Collector desires that a replica of the confiscated antiquities is to be acquired for the Customs museum a request to this effect will be made to the department of Archaeology while depositing the antiquities who shall provide the same. For each such situation the Incharge warehouse will obtain the orders from Deputy Collector whether it was desire able that a replica is to be obtained.
