PUBLIC NOTICE NO. 03/1982-(APPRAISEMENT) 

SUB:      PCT CLASSIFICATION OF BONTEX BOARD 47, BONTEX BOARD 37 AND TEXON BOARD.

A dispute has arisen regarding classification of “Bontex Board 47”. The matter was referred for advice to Custom Cooperation Council, Brussels, alongwith a representative sample.

            The Customs Cooperation Council have, vide their letter No.L/81/1985/F0/F1.E0-2 dated 31.07.1981 opined that the Bontex Board 47 is classifiable under heading 48.07. They based their opinion on the test report of their laboratory which reported that the product in question consisted for paper board impregnated with polystyrene butadiene (polybutadiene styrene of SBR) which is a synthetic rubber of Chapter 40 (heading 40.02). They have further confirmed that ‘Bontex Board 47’ was similar to “Bontex 37” which they had already classified under heading 48.07 some year ago.

            It is therefore ruled that ‘Bontex Board 47’ Bontex Board 37 and similar other products, such as Texon Board will henceforth be classified under PCT 48.07B.
