PUBLIC NOTICE NO. 19/1980-A

SUB:              Recording of P.C.T. items in 8 digits.

All the Importers/Clearing Agents are hereby required to furnish the P.C.T items in eight digits only on their respective Bills of Entry, according to the P.C.T items announced in the Federal Budget on 26-06-1980.

A few examples of Conversion to eight digits are as under:

(I)         Where the P.C.T. item is given in 4 digits, four zeros are to be added on the right side for example:-

P.C.T. item No. 12.02 should be written as 12.020000.

(II)        Where the P.C.T. item is given in 5 digits, three zeros are to be added on the right side or example.

P.C.T. item No. 12.07 A should be written as 12.07A000.

(III)       Where the P.C.T. item is given in 7 digits one zero is to be added on the right side, for example:-

P.C.T. item No. 12.07EO1  should be written as12.07E10.

(IV)      Where the P.C.T. item is given in 8 digits, for example: -

73.40D09a-----------------No zero is to be added. Thus

minimum field of P.C.T. is six digits (-----------000000)   on

the right side and two digits (00.---------)   on       the      left       side.

All the Appraisers of the Appraising and Preventive Collectorates have been ordered to ensure that all the Bills of Entry furnished contain correct P.C.T. item in 8digits, and also not to entertain those Bills of Entry, which do not bear P.C.T. item Nos. in digits till they are corrected on the spot. These orders come into force with effect from 1st November 1980.

This issues with the Concurrence of the Collector of Customs (Preventive).
