SUB: Definition of plastic film and sheets for THE PURPOSE of classification and assessment
A question has arisen about correct determination of Plastic films and sheets in respect of their distinctive feature are distinguishing criterion. The issue has been examined in detail. As per glossary of flexible packaging terms incorporated in the “Olin Converters Manual” published by Technical Services Publications, film is defined as, “unsupported thin flexible non-fibrous material of thickness not exceeding 0.010”. Another work on the subject Plastic Film, by J.H. Briston published by London ILIFFEE Books, in 1974, defines plastic film as, “Film comprise material upto 250 microns (0.010) inches whereas thickness above that figure refers to sheets.
2. It is, therefore, ruled and notified for information of all concerned that henceforth plastic film will be considered upto thickness of 0.10” (250 Microns) only. Above that will be categorized as plastic sheet.
