PUBLIC NOTICE NO. 19/1990-(APPRAISEMENT) 

SUB:  CLASSIFICATION OF INDUSTRIAL STEAM IRONS

            A dispute regarding classification of electric smoothing iron fitted with plastic container or steam boiler has risen as to whether it should be classified in heading 84.51 or 85.16 in the past this item was being classified in heading 84.40F02 of the PCT based on CCCN. However, after the introduction of new tariff based on the Harmonized Coding System, the item has clearly been shown classifiable in heading 85.16 of the PCT in the Explanatory Notes to heading 85.16 of the H.S. However, erroneously, the impugned goods continued to be classified in heading 84.51 of the PCT.

It is, therefore, notified for the information of the trade that future imports of these industrial steam irons shall be classified in heading 85.16 of the PCT. This classification also has the approval of the Central Board of Revenue, Islamabad.
