PUBLIC  NOTICE NO. 20/1991-(APPRAISEMENT)

SUB:              Time limit for removal of goods from warehouse

It has been observed that some bidders who purchase moods in auction from Customers do not lift them from the public warehouses or the palace of auction for a long time even after receiving the delivery order for the goods for the Custom House.

This practice is wrong in such as during the intervening period the auctioned goods ray suffer some loss due to unforeseen damages/deterioration. Once the goods are auctioned, bid money is paid and delivery order is issued to the bidder, the Government is not liable to pay any compensation in respect of such goods as envisaged under section 116 of the Customs Act 1969. Accordingly it has been decided that if the auctioned goods are not titled by the bidder from the warehouse within two days from the date of receipt of delivery order from the Custom House, the warehouse keeper shall not be responsible for any damage, deficiency or loss in respect of such goods. Besides, the Warehouse charges for not lifting the goods after two days of the receipt of delivery order from the Custom House.
