SUB: EXAMINATION FORMALITIES DRAWAL OF SAMPLES ETC.
It has been noticed with the serious concerns that the Collectorate's Public Notice No. 18/2001 dated 1.11.2001, providing comprehensive policy guidelines for import of consignments for iron and steel sheets / coils, is not being implemented in letter and spirit. Mixed lots of HRC, CRC and GP Sheets / Coils are imported by the importer / clearing agent without declaring exact quantities, quality and specification of each variety.
2. It is, therefore, reiterated for information of all concerned that importers /.clearing agent shall obtain separate packing list for each of the imported category of sheet / coil and file the G.D., accordingly, declaring thereon complete quantity, quality and specification of the imported goods. In case where the goods are imported in mix, the shed staff shall not estimate the quantities and weight of the different varieties. The importer / clearing agent shall accordingly, segregate each category of goods and provide separate weighment slip from the KPT / terminal weighbridge, before examination. The customs staff shall then verify the contents and certify the same before endorsing the examination report.
3. Furthermore, consignments of Tin Free Sheets, Cold Rolled Non-Grain Oriented (CRNGO) / Silicon coated sheet shall be subject to 100 examination through AC / DC(Shed) in addition to fulfillment of above formalities of exact declaration of weight, quantity and quality of each category. Representative samples shall be drawn of each variety under supervision of the AC / DC (Shed) and the same shall be forwarded directly at AC / DC (Group), duly sealed, against acknowledgement and the same be sent to the laboratory for test through a Customs personnel.
