STANDING ORDER NO. 06/1997 (PREVENTIVE)

SUB:    PARTICULARS / SERIAL NUMBERS ETC., OF CONSUMER  DURABLE IMORTED ITEMS.

It has been notice during scrutiny of import documents, baggage declarations and assessment slips issued to the passengers, covering consignments of consumers durable etc., that particulars leading to identification of the goods are not mentioned properly in the relevant documents. Resultantly, these documents can be used/re-used for covering the smuggled/illegal imported similar goods/items.

2.         In view of the above, it is, therefore, ordered that henceforth necessary particulars such as, model No., Serial No., Make, brand, capacity and county of origin etc. shall invariably be declared by the importer or by the passenger as the case may be and the customs staff shall examine such consignments/baggage thoroughly and shall record its particulars on all copies of bill of entry, baggage declarations or assessment slips, so that those goods remain verifiable even after release by the customs.

3.         In case, any deviation is noticed from the above than it shall attract instant disciplinary action.
