PM has ordered spectrum auction by February 2026 to unleash e-SIMs, NFC banking, nano-banking, and wireless charging nationwide — with 196M mobile subs and 148M broadband users waiting. Yet <5% of phones are 5G-ready, 40% still on feature phones, 10% of Pakistanis phoneless, and 19.5% duties on imported parts keep new devices brutally expensive. PTA warns: cut taxes on components and equipment, flood the market with cheap 5G phones, or watch the digital revolution die before it starts — cheaper devices = more users = higher tax revenue later.
