excise Dept Takes Over Professional & Luxury Tax Collection in Cantonment Areas

The Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Department has officially taken control of professional and luxury tax collection in Rawalpindi and Chaklala Cantt, issuing 10,000 notices to shopkeepers for professional tax and 312 notices to property owners for luxury tax.

Professional tax: Rs2,000–Rs10,000 for businesses
Luxury tax: Rs200,000 for two-kanal houses, Rs300,000 for larger properties
Deadline: 10–15 days before Eidul Fitr

This shift follows a Supreme Court ruling that transferred tax collection from Cantonment Boards to the Excise Department, now overseeing all eight cantonment areas in Rawalpindi Division.
A strict enforcement drive is set to begin after Eid, including property sealing and arrests for non-payment. Officials expect millions in additional revenue from this move.
