Pakistan is set to establish a legal framework for cryptocurrency trading to draw in international investment, according to Bilal bin Saqib, CEO of the newly formed Pakistan Crypto Council. In a Bloomberg TV interview, he explained that the country wants to create clear regulations for digital assets to support its growing crypto community.
Bilal said, “Pakistan is tired of being left out. We need a clear, business-friendly legal structure for crypto. With a young population—60% under 30—and low costs, we’re in a strong position to attract investors and lead in blockchain finance.” He pointed out that Pakistan already has 15 to 20 million crypto users handling billions in transactions, making legalization a logical step to boost the economy.
As a recognized Web3 investor and blockchain expert by Forbes, Bilal highlighted Pakistan’s low operating costs as an advantage over places like Dubai and Singapore. He mentioned that the country is working on regulatory sandboxes—special setups to help crypto startups operate legally and safely.
Pakistan is also collaborating with the UAE, Nigeria, and Turkiye to shape its policies and plans a balanced tax system to encourage foreign investment. Bilal believes crypto could strengthen Pakistan’s fintech sector and position it as a regional leader in digital finance.
On the global front, he noted that a potential return of US President Donald Trump could boost crypto worldwide, citing Trump’s supportive policies like a White House Crypto Advisory Team and a Bitcoin reserve. “The US sees crypto as a key asset, like gold or oil,” he said. “Pakistan needs to keep up with this shift or risk falling behind.”
