Pakistan has managed to lower the customs valuation of its rice exports to Kenya from $615 to $460 per metric ton, making its rice more competitive in the Kenyan market and boosting trade between the two countries.
A news report states that this change came after Pakistani rice exporters pushed back against the high valuation. The Trade Mission at the Pakistan High Commission in Nairobi worked with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) through diplomatic efforts and negotiations to resolve the issue.
After letters, high-level talks, and meetings with Kenyan officials, the Trade Mission succeeded in getting the valuation reduced, offering relief to Pakistan’s rice exporters. The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) praised the mission’s efforts in settling the matter.
The $155 per ton reduction is expected to make Pakistani rice more affordable in Kenya, opening up new export possibilities and solidifying Pakistan’s role as a major rice supplier worldwide. The government is continuing to tackle trade obstacles and improve market access for its exporters.
Officials noted that this achievement shows Pakistan’s dedication to supporting its exporters and building stronger trade relationships. The outcome in Kenya is part of a wider push to promote Pakistani goods globally and deepen economic ties with important partners
