The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday issued a detailed verdict regarding the deduction of Rs1.37 billion from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) bank account by the tax department.
Justice Babar Sattar delivered the verdict on a petition filed by the PTA.
The PTA had challenged the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) over the deduction.
The court directed the FBR to resolve the PTAs petition within two months.
Additionally, the court fined the deputy commissioner of Inland Revenue Services (IRS) Rs0.1 million.
The PTA argued that the FBR withdrew a large tax amount without prior notice.
The judge noted that deducting taxes without issuing notice is unlawful.
It’s worth noting that the FBR deducted Rs1.37 billion from the PTAs account in 2018.
