Dr. Waqar Masood Khan Passes Away

Dr. Waqar Masood Khan, esteemed former Federal Secretary for Finance Division, passed away on Saturday, leaving behind a legacy as a distinguished economist renowned for his vast expertise in both public and private sectors, and as a regular contributor to Business Recorder.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conveyed heartfelt condolences, underscoring Dr. Waqar’s profound contributions to Pakistan’s government. “The invaluable services of the late Dr. Waqar Masood to Pakistan will forever be cherished,” the PM declared in his statement.

Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Waqar held numerous high-profile roles, including Special Secretary to the Prime Minister, Secretary Finance Division, Secretary Economic Affairs Division, Secretary Petroleum & Natural Resources, and Secretary Textile Industry. He was also a prolific author, penning two books on eradicating Riba (interest) from the economy.

Additionally, Dr. Waqar served on the boards of prominent financial and banking institutions, such as the State Bank of Pakistan, National Bank of Pakistan, and the Islamic Development Bank. He represented Pakistan as the alternate Governor in the IMF, World Bank, and Asian Development Bank.
