4 PCBL Officials Arrested in Land Fraud Investigation

| 06-Feb-2025

Four officials from the Punjab Cooperative Board for Liquidation (PCBL) have been arrested in connection with a massive land fraud case, with an FIR filed against them and several private individuals for their involvement in the illegal occupation and sale of government property, according to a news report.

The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Lahore is investigating the illegal transfer and sale of state land using forged documents.

The FIR states that around 225 kanals of government land were unlawfully transferred and converted into private housing schemes. PCBL officials allegedly played a key role in facilitating the illegal occupation and sale of land under various khewat numbers. Fake documents were created, enabling unsuspecting buyers to purchase illegally developed plots.

Despite an inquiry and directives from the Lahore High Court for a land survey, PCBL staff obstructed the process, allowing land grabbers to retain control over the property. Additionally, some properties that had been seized were reoccupied through the collusion of corrupt officials and private individuals.

A total of 41 people, including PCBL officials, property consultants, revenue officers, security personnel, and private beneficiaries, have been named in the case. The investigation is still ongoing, with more arrests expected.

In parallel, the Regional Directorate of the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Lahore has summoned senior PCBL officials to answer questions regarding financial irregularities. The agency is seeking detailed information on 200,000 investors, mortgage files, rental agreements, and outstanding directors.

The summons specifically requires the appearance of PCBL officials responsible for claims, recoveries, and financial records over the last ten years.

Authorities have issued a stern warning that failure to comply will result in legal action under Sections 172-173 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). The investigation aims to recover the fraudulently acquired land and hold those responsible accountable for their actions
