LCCI Backs Tax Evasion Crackdown, Urges Incentives for Honest Taxpayers

| 29-Dec-2024

The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has endorsed the government’s initiative to address large-scale tax evasion, announced by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Rashid Langrial during a recent press conference.

They held Pakistan’s wealthiest 5% responsible for evading approximately Rs1.6 trillion in taxes annually.

LCCI President Mian Abuzar Shad and senior leaders, while commending the move, called for a balanced strategy that targets tax evaders while encouraging compliant taxpayers with incentives and support.

“Action against affluent tax evaders is essential to secure the nation’s revenue,” they stated, “but fostering a culture of compliance also requires recognising and rewarding honest taxpayers who drive economic growth.”

They proposed measures like tax reductions, public recognition, and business support for compliant taxpayers, along with National Tax Compliance Awards to honour top contributors.

The leaders also urged efforts to integrate untapped sectors and individuals into the formal tax net, suggesting simplified digital tax registration and filing processes to attract new taxpayers.
